2 Days Lodge Safari
For travelers with only a day or two to spare, this 2-day lodge safari packs two of Northern Tanzania’s strongest parks into the shortest possible itinerary. Tarangire National Park is known for some of the largest elephant herds in Tanzania, gathered around the Tarangire River and scattered among ancient baobab trees, while the Ngorongoro Crater offers one of the most concentrated wildlife experiences in Africa, with lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo and one of the country’s best chances of spotting the endangered black rhino, all within a single volcanic caldera.
Because both parks sit close together on the road between Arusha and Karatu, this itinerary covers serious ground without the long transfer days that come with reaching the Serengeti. It’s a popular choice as a standalone short break or as an add-on before or after a Kilimanjaro climb. Travelers with an extra day or two should consider our 3-Day Tanzania Lodge Safari, which adds Lake Manyara, or the 4-Day Tanzania Lodge Safari, which extends into the Serengeti itself.
